Bede's Summer Camp - Dicker

Bede’s Summer School truly delivers an immersive international boarding experience. From the moment students arrive on campus, they are surrounded by a vibrant and highly international environment. The school carefully limits students of the same language background to no more than 20%, encouraging children to naturally communicate in English within a truly diverse setting. Each center is thoughtfully organized by age group, with courses designed to be both appropriately challenging and developmentally suitable. All teaching staff meet accredited UK standards, and the program uses the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach, combining English learning with engaging subjects such as science, technology, geography, and history. Through exploration, hands-on activities, and critical thinking, students improve their language skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way. The boarding campuses offer spacious and secure outdoor environments with a wide variety of activities, including sports, arts, and STEM projects, as well as 2–4 excursions each week. Beyond the classroom, students gain authentic exposure to British culture and daily life. With a high staff-to-student ratio, attentive pastoral care, modern facilities, and excellent campus environments, Bede’s ensures that every child can learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and supportive atmosphere—returning home with greater confidence, stronger English skills, and unforgettable memories.

Course Overview

This programme takes place at Dicker and is hosted across two boarding schools whose campus buildings are recognised as nationally significant historic sites. The programme follows a semi-intensive format with 20 hours of lessons per week, combining English Skills, Enrichment classes, and Research Projects. Together, these elements provide a balanced approach to language development and academic learning while also strengthening students’ communication and interpersonal skills.

Each week, students research a specific theme and deliver presentations based on their findings. The programme incorporates fun and engaging competitive elements, with the Director of Studies selecting winning classes and recognising outstanding students with awards and prizes. In addition to the core academic programme, students can also take part in public speaking, essay writing, and optional specialist courses in sports or arts and crafts.

Evening entertainment activities give students opportunities to relax and socialise. Every Wednesday and weekend, school staff lead supervised excursions to places of cultural and historical interest.

Accomodations

The Dicker campus provides separate accommodation for boys and girls. Most rooms are twin, triple, or quad rooms. Each boarding house includes common lounge areas where students can relax during their free time.

Students share rooms with peers of similar age from different countries, helping them communicate, practise English, and build cross-cultural friendships. Some boarding houses follow an “apartment-style” layout, where every two or three bedrooms share one bathroom, while others provide shared bathroom facilities on each floor.

Bede’s staff also live in the boarding houses alongside the students and are available 24 hours a day to provide support and assistance, including handling emergencies during the night. Each boarding house has a dedicated House Parent responsible for the daily management of the house and for students’ comfort and wellbeing.

The school holds daily roll calls and briefing meetings to ensure all students are present and informed about the day’s schedule. Each boarding house also has notice boards for important information and announcements. Laundry service supervised by the House Parent is provided at least twice a week and is included in the programme fee.

The school conducts weekly fire drills to ensure students are familiar with emergency evacuation procedures.

Bede’s decides which boarding houses are used for boys and girls each week according to enrolment numbers.
